  1. I absolutely love this place. I am a frequent guest. I feel like I’m at home. The cooks are fabulous efficient they always have the food on point. I’ve never had a time that it was not delicious. The service providers waitresses are friendly. They always ask me if I need coffee because I am quite particular about how my coffee is made. They have the best coffee in town. If you guys know me I always write a review and this is one place I want you all to check out. They’re open from 6 to 3. Saturdays are my best days but remember come early because there will be a line but they will try to get you in as soon as possible. It seems to me the places that have lies are always the place to eat for me. I wanna thank you counter café, and your staff for your hard work your discipline to make fabulous food for all us as consumers and keeping us happy. We will not go wrong if you come here and if you just so happen to find this post and it make sure decisionmy name is Sara. I’m happy to give you a glass place in town my little secret counter café.

  2. Well I’m impressed. Super high quality service and very good food. I was told a 30 minute wait for 1. Turns out I got seated a minute later outside. My waitress was quick to get my order and I was frequently offered more water and coffee throughout my visit. I ended up getting Joes Special and a single biscuit and gravy. The food came out hot and fast. The biscuit and gravy was perfect. I love that you can get a single order. So I felt free to try it the special. Joes special really is pretty fantastic. It’s got yummy potatoes, sautéed onions, spinach and red pepper and good thick slices of sausage with two thick pieces of fresh 9 grain bread. And their scrambled eggs were beautifully yellow and fluffy. I’m getting hungry thinking about it. Like most brunch places, you can expect a wait but I’d say it’s def worth it!

  3. The food here is delicious. You can stop reading now if that is all the information you need.

But here’s a funny story. A friend of mine flew in town for SX. Her originally-delayed flight ended up landing on time so she met a friend and I for breakfast. Friend #1 and I had already been sat. I asked the hostess if we could add a 3rd spot. She replied with a simple “NO” so forcefully that I laughed because I thought she was joking. I appreciate this kind of humor. She was not though. Our table watched as she pulled aside several servers whispering to them quickly and pointing to us. She would model stomp-walk hurriedly by us, throwing ferocious looks. Then, she appeared very close to us like out of thin air (she can move quietly, too) shaking. She asked our names, only to quickly turn back around, walk up to the hostess stand, and scribble with a marker while muttering angrily to herself.

Our actual waitress though was absolutely great and understanding. It seems like the best way to sort out miscommunications is to communicate.

  4. Came here Saturday morning around 11.. there was a 30 min wait for a table for 2. They have coffee outside while you wait which I really liked!

We got the hot cakes (2), side of fruit, roasted vegetables sandwich with sweet potato fries. This was a lot of food for two people but since we didn’t eat dinner the night before we somehow managed to finish most of it.

The hot cakes are gigantic, we could’ve sufficed with one. They were extremely fluffy which I liked. One of them wasn’t fully cooked but we were full anyway so it didn’t matter. Wish they had an option to add chocolate chips though!

Roasted veggie sandwich was good but had a lot more cheese than I like.

Also freshly squeezed orange juice was . Overall good brunch spot with solid food.

  5. I was out on errands and realized I hadn’t had breakfast and was so hungry. I stopped in. I visit neighboring Cuvee Coffee now and again, but had not yet stopped in for breakfast at Counter Cafe on Sixth Street. I enjoyed a hearty breakfast and one of the best pancakes ever. I will definitely be back.

  6. I love this place. I love both locations.

But! Be aware, that coffee out front, is not free. There’s no sign. It certainly looks free. It is not. It is $3. It will show up on your bill at the end of the meal. We never even had a refill once seated.

The owners should put a sign out on the cart. Patrons should ditch their “free” coffee prior to being seated.

I probably sound really cheap. I’m okay with that.

  7. Great American food with decent pricing. A little loud sometimes. Try to sit on the patio if you can it’ll be a much better experience.

The burger is fantastic! Simple but delicious.

  8. Came to this place for brunch because it’s my friend’s favorite place. I love brunch and this place did it so well! I got one of the breakfast combinations with spinach and sausage. And I replaced the today for a biscuit. Everything was delicious and exactly what I wanted for breakfast. My boyfriend got the special, which was the steak Benedict, and he wasn’t as thrilled as I was. But I’m writing the review here! Everything tasted great and the staff is very friendly. Not to mention cuvee is right next door, so you can get coffee while you wait for a table.

  9. Counter Cafe is becoming my go to weekend breakfast spot. I’ve loved pretty much everything I’ve tried on the menu. My favs:

    – Joe’s Special w/ poached eggs, spinach, potatoes, and sausage patties. Throw some Yellow Bird Habanero on top too…yes!
-The french fries are classic but so good!
    – Great coffee and mimosas
    – Fresh ingredients
    – Crabcake benedict!!
    – And if we’re really hungry like today, we will split a pancake on the side 🙂

I love the skylights and enjoy sitting at the counter watching the folks cook up this stuff right in front of me!

  10. Tried this place for breakfast the morning after ACL. It’s tucked away next to Cuvée coffee on Chicon. I had the Joe’s Special of a hash with potatoes, sausage, egg, spinach, toast, and avocado. Very delicious and felt a lot healthier then it probably was. They offer fresh grapefruit juice which is my favorite. I also split a large blueberry pancake. Thick and fluffy just how I like it.

Some parking on the front and sides. Not just seating on the counter but regular tables and some patio seating available too.

  11. So it’s popular, we were lucky, 2 seats opened up at the bar in about 5 minutes, though there was a large party of peeps waiting for about 20 mins, can’t blame them, that’s a lot of people. Our server was 5/5! He didn’t let our cups get empty, quickly brought our food, and bill.

However it evens out to about 4 stars overall. Our food was 3/5. It want bad, it just wasn’t anything to rave about. She had eggs Benedict and I had breakfast tacos. If you want great service this is your destination.

  12. Fresh! Fresh! Fresh!
I can’t say it enough, the food here is just so fresh!
This is a place you either want to rise early to get to or be prepared to wait about 20 minutes. Outdoor and indoor seating is available.
The juice is so good that you know it came straight from the source and not a can or carton. The food, man words can’t explain.. but I’ll try my best.
My traveling buddies got the basic breakfast (I forgot the menu name) with eggs, cooked any style, bacon or sausage, toast, and they got potatoes on the side. I went for Joe’s Special, spinach, sausage, eggs, and potatoes with that wonderful wheat toast. Add a little sea salt and you’re good to go!
The service is amazing! They are very attentive without being overbearing. We enjoyed our time there and it will surely be a stop next time we’re in Austin.

Oh breakfast and lunch is served all day. And for those who love poached eggs and quail, you will adore Counter Cafe.
