About us: Bikin’ Betties is a semi-regular Monday evening bike ride for female, female-identifying, and gender-nonconforming folks. It’s a great way to meet like-minded folks, get a bit of a workout, learn convenient and safe bike routes around the city, and become more skilled and confident on your bike. (Boys, you know we love you, but every now and then we need our time without you. Thanks for respecting us and letting us do this ride without you.)
These are “no-drop” rides, meaning no one gets left behind. Ever. Some weeks we’ll ride more miles than others, and the routes will vary in intensity – some being easy, hill-less cruises and others being longer, more challenging rides. If you like riding bikes (or wanna start), join the Bikin’ Betties facebook group to stay in the loop with events and discussions: www.fb.com/groups/bikinbetties.
Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. We don’t block intersections. We are cool to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road.
REMINDER: The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control every rider’s behavior, nor do we desire to. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider’s responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.
