Retro Diner Soul with Modern Austin Flavor24 Diner channels that perfect retro diner spirit but gives it a fresh Austin spin with clean lines, eclectic energy, and chef-driven twists that keep every bite interesting. Texas native Andrew Curren brings his Culinary Institute training and worldly flavors to classics done right—think all-day breakfast that hits the spot morning or midnight, and the legendary crispy chicken & waffles with that ideal sweet-savory balance. Juicy burgers, hand-spun milkshakes, and seasonal salads round out a menu where comfort meets quality. Right at the corner of 6th and Lamar, it’s the welcoming booth where good people, good food, and good times come together any hour of the day.

Open When You Need It: Late Nights & All-Day Breakfast

When the rest of the city powers down, 24 Diner keeps the lights on and the griddle hot—open 24 hours Thursday through Saturday and late into the night on Wednesdays. Slide in for late-night chicken & waffles after a show, a leisurely brunch with friends, or that 3 a.m. burger and cocktail craving that only a true diner can satisfy. Hand-crafted cocktails and local beers pair perfectly with the elevated comfort classics, while the modern-meets-nostalgic vibe makes every visit feel like coming home. Affordable, reliable, and always delicious, this is the spot locals turn to when hunger doesn’t keep regular hours.

  1. My wife and I came after a late flight and were seated right away in a booth. The chicken pot pie was delicious, probably the best I’ve had – the pastry and filling were both absolutely perfect. The atmosphere is so warm and cozy, especially at night. The music was great. And the service was incredible, we truly felt like royalty. We will be back to try more of their extensive menu!

  2. This spot definitely shows a lot of potential, especially when it comes to the food. Everything we tried—the chicken and waffles, French toast, and chicken fried chicken—was genuinely delicious and prepared really well. The flavors were on point, and the dishes couldn’t have been better. However, the overall condition of the restaurant itself takes away from the experience. The space feels worn down, from the faded paint to the tired seat cushions, and it could use some refreshing. With a little attention to the interior, this place could easily shine. For now, the food is worth ordering, but getting it to-go might be the more comfortable choice.

  3. Decided to make a pit stop for lunch so did a quick google search and decided on this place! Super cute atmosphere! The staff was excellent! It’s a little pricier than your normal diner but the food holds up to its price. If you wanna save same money I recommend you go during the happy hour which starts at 3. We got the chili cheese fries and Mac and cheese bites at $7 happy hour price! The Mac and cheese can use a little more cheese but the crisp and homemade ranch were perfect! The chili has a nice spicy kick to it, fries were really good. My daughter got the chicken and waffles, chicken could use some salt/pepper but it was really good other than that. Also had the 24 diner hash which did not disappoint. Had a great bacon/onion/potato ratio. Overall it was really good.

  4. I still love this place! Good coffee, great breakfast options, and breakfast served at all times (why is breakfast late night the very best?!). Although I still love the Breakfast Platter, the Chicken and Waffles is pretty amazing, with brown sugar butter! Plus, I like the fact that I choose white vs. dark meat. The Goat Cheese Frittata is a tasty vegetarian option.

  5. Great food. Hadn’t been here in years… Not sure why. Lots of choices makes it hard to decide. We had 24 hash, veggie hash & side of Oatmeal with chutney. All great. I would NEVER have thought to pair Oatmeal with chutney, but it works. 🙂

On hashes we ordered small & I couldn’t finish mine (teenager did) … Main difference is more potatoes on larger one. Apparently

Their jams taste homemade… Not overly sweet, which I LOVE. More of the actual fruit flavor. Especially loved the peach.

Our waiter, OSCAR, was SUPER attentive & helpful. Ask for him! We will next time!

  6. My first time coming here was in 2010 when my brother graduated with his undergrad degree. This is one of his favorite restaurants and it’s open 24 hours, like in the name.

It wasn’t crowded the first time we came and it wasn’t crowded this time. Another major thing I like was it wasn’t cold. Most restaurants I go to have me sleepy before I even order my food.

The first time I went I had the Betsy Veggie. It’s a handcrafted burger made with beets, lentils, flaxseeds and other delicious goodness. I swear I tried to recreate it but no such luck.

Since then I had been feigning for that burger so when we went last night, I was too hype. It tastes just as good as I remember. My waitress was pretty amazing. The waiter the first time I came was very knowledgeable about the burger so I was comfortable ordering it this time.

  7. Late night, and an offering of this sort of menu. Fried chicken and Waffles, so Trendy. I’m in LA after Laker basketball, Or where to avoid the grey Austin DUI patrols. 24 Hour dinner is a good choice. Until Oil pays for the operation of the SATE. RIG, EXXON Mobile, the Bushes and Ted Cruz. Good food 24 hours.

  8. 24 Diner as the name implies, is a restaurant inspired by the diners of the ’50s and it is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The menu is filled with all the crowd-pleasing options comfort food that is locally-sourced. When I came here for brunch on a weekend it was about a 30 minute wait so my friend and I popped in next door to Waterloo Records while we waited for a table.

I was happy with my order of the fried chicken biscuit with honey and the side of fruit ($9.95). It was just filling enough but wasn’t too much or too little food. The coffee is locally roasted in Austin and it was great. I ordered a latte and it was huge! ($3.95) Both of these things were just what I needed to fuel my long day ahead of sightseeing.

This place isn’t your typical diner–the food is more thoughtfully prepared and presented. I would recommend it for breakfast or maybe an after-the bars type of spot but probably I wouldn’t come here for dinner. The service was good and I would come back.

  9. I feel like I probably don’t come here enough, but I have been here 3 times in 6 years or so and every time 24 Diner has been great! I am absolutely a fan. My one regret for my most recent visit was that I was too full to have one of their delicious, magical milk shakes. The roasted banana is the bomb-digitty.

Get the deviled eggs – they’re great and the perfect appetizer. The greens on the plate are good too. The corn fitters were ok, but I could pass on them probably. I ordered the honey chicken biscuit with fruit. The biscuit was light and fluffy and the chicken was perfectly fried and drizzled with honey …. mmmm…. I would order it again for sure!

Our server we had on our most recent visit was super cool and definitely was a factor to the fun experience we had here. We ended up at 24 Diner at about 10pm on a Friday night looking for dinner. It was the perfect choice!
