Sam’s Town Point, a south Austin icon, has been delivering ice cold beer and foot-tappin’ live music since 1981.

Sam’s lacks glossy modern architecture, serves no craft cocktails, and brags no contrived concept. It feels like old Austin because it’s been a working class neighborhood joint since phone booths.

Owner Ramsay Midwood, musician and longtime resident singer, host’s some of Austin’s finest local acts and the occasional roadshow band. Shinyribs, played his first gig at Sam’s Town Point, as did Mike and the Moonpies. Country, Country punk, Western Swing, Americana, Blues and sometimes more eclectic bands plug-in and count down every weekend at this Austin legendary venue.

Sam’s sport’s two stages – indoor and out and a roomy beer garden.

While others chase the zeitgeist of Austin, Sams’ Town Point exudes a lowfalutin’ creative fortitude that’s refreshingly real. Spend some time poking around the compound and you’ll know what makes it special: the people.

SEXY!!!! My FAVORITE bar in old Austin. Tucked away in a neighborhood off W. Slaughter down a road named Riddle…. A nostalgic music & dance bar, no-thrills. Sexy red tea light candles on dark wooden tables, low ceilings, ULTRA dim lights, intimate dance floor, music featuring the sweet & talented Guthrie Girls on Wednesdays (Arlo Guthrie’s daughters), some jazzy/blues, some zydecco or country, but always GOOD, stand-at bar with old-school no-fluff bartenders with cool lunch lady vibes, dancers welcome, music lovers welcome, the outdoor area I really wish they would take advantage of more because the venue is incredible. Owner sometimes plays with the bands, very cool if you get a chance to make his acquaintance. Not really a pick up bar, but definitely a place to bring a date to dance or play pool!!!! Not too loud, noise is perfect. Great place to unwind & chill with the coolest cats around.

After being disappointed with sixth street in Austin we were lucky to find Sam’s Town Point.
This is what we expected a honky tonk to be like. This is how they are shown in the movies like The Blues Brothers. This was just like Bobs Country Bunker!
It’s about a 20 min drive from Sixth street but well worth it.
No fake stuff here.
Lots of atmosphere and good people. Great place to go dancing if that’s your thing, otherwise it’s fun to watch.

Coolest venue I’ve been to in a long time. It’s rugged, cozy, and anti-luxury as it should be. Perfect place to watch Rattlesnake Milk on Saturday night.

Incredible bar. Everyone dancing, great music. A rare and special atmosphere here. Really appreciated the dim lighting inside, a lot of which is from neon signs placed around the perimeter of the room. Very much worth the small drive from the centre of town. At least when we went, everyone was a super talented dancer, so brush up on your country dancing skills ahead of time if you don’t want to feel awkward.
