We had a great time at the white horse. There was a group of us and had a blast learning how to 2-Step together. I would highly recommend for a fun night of good’ol’ country music.

This place… step back in time by about 30 years, but keep all of the good nostalgia with you. Came here early for 2 step lessons. There are zero frills but also zero fakeness. It is what it is, and nothing more. Exactly what we need in this environment of “influencers” telling us what we should find important.

One of the first places I ever went in Austin and still get chills every time I walk in. Hickoids and Beaumonts are the best at the white horse! I’m from Texas she can tell by the way I’m two steppin round the room…

If youre looking for low-key hole in the wall, good service and live country music, this is the place. Locals dancing to local musicians. Cold beers, and good music. I was there 730p-10p on a Wed. But music started 8pm with multiple bands thru out the night. I wanted to stay longer but had an early morning. thoroughly enjoyed the music and the people dancing at this little gem.

Visiting The White Horse in Austin was such an incredible experience and easily one of the highlights of my trip. This spot truly captures the heart and soul of Texas nightlife. From the moment I walked in, the energy was contagious — a mix of locals and visitors all coming together to enjoy a good time. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool, laid-back yet full of life, making it the perfect place to spend a night out.

The live country music is without a doubt the star of the show. The bands that play here are phenomenal, delivering authentic sounds that make you want to hit the dance floor immediately. Whether you’re an experienced two-stepper or just watching from the sidelines, it’s impossible not to get swept up in the rhythm and vibe of the crowd.

On top of the music, the drinks were excellent. The bartenders know how to mix strong, tasty cocktails, and the beer selection is spot on for a night of dancing and hanging out. Prices are very reasonable too, which only adds to the charm.

Overall, The White Horse is more than just a bar — it’s an experience. Great music, great drinks, and an atmosphere that’s truly Austin. I can’t wait to go back.

My first honkytonk experience.
It was perfect.
Great blend of ages and lifestyles come together in Austin’s Dirty Six and many of these people know how to dance so even a arrhythmic soul like myself can enjoy the art and festivity of homkytonk.
I expected a long line and elbow to elbow dance floor/bar. Instead the venue was lively and energetic but breatheable. It helps that there is an indoor dance floor, stage, and bar supplemented with a outdoor patio/courtyard if you need to get some air.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken my boots out for a spin on the dance floor. TWH did not disappoint. Good for locals or visitors. Great bands! Our Lyft driver parked and came in with us.

This place isn’t just a plain ol “hell yeah”….
It’s a HAAAIILLLL YES! I can’t even dance, but I seem to have the best time when I come here! The last time I was there, The Beaumont’s were playing and I should have just thrown my damn panties on the stage. They are amazing!!!! The White Horse has a pretty great authentic Austin vibe.

Nothing but a good time to be had here. Great dive bar that will fulfill all of your singing and dancing needs. Great live bands, cheap drinks and plenty of dance floor space to let yourself go as much or as little as your feeling like. Perfect place to bring a date to get outside of your comfort zones a bit or I’d imagine also a good watering hole to come with some buddies when you’re tired of trying to make impressions on Rainey.

Great for out-of-towners and locals alike. Highly recommended and would definitely come back when I’m back in Austin.

Love this place!! It’s a great place for some live music and country dancing. They also teach country dancing here on some days. The live bands are pretty good almost every time that I have come. Beer is great and relatively at a good price.
Don’t forget to bring your cowboy/cowgirl boots!! 🙂

Did you want to learn to two step? Were you hoping for somewhere with slightly more air conditioning?
Looking for a dancing bar without the crowd of the other east side clubs?
White horse has all that your heart has desired…. There’s something to be said about all the father-daughter dances, because I’m just not quite sure what all these young pretty little thangs are doing with daddy types, but hey, maybe there’s something in the Texas water.

White Horse is absolutely my go-to spot when showing off the great gems of Austin to out of towners. It reconciles East Austin’s hip, young vibe with excellent country vibes. The bartenders are friendly, the live music is always great, and the back patio is a great spot to go outside and mingle with friends for some fresh air. I am not, however, sold on the taco truck out back.

The reason I simply can not rate this funky spot higher is because the place smells. Like really smells like somebody threw up and then covered it up with Clorox. If there is a way to alleviate the smell then this place goes up a star.

I would normally never feel comfortable stepping foot in a place that touts its two-stepping dance area but my good friend Professor Dumpster talked me into going…AND two stepping with me. I didn’t break too many of his toes and was glad I didn’t notice anyone containing their laughter. It seemed all judgement free and there was also free popcorn at the door! It reminded me of what a saloon back in the day might look like. A little dark and dirty but I think this is a hidden gem in such a hipster happy area.

Have you ever heard of a Texas Two Step?! Neither had I until I walked into this place. Dance the night away with some Texans at the White Horse.

A shot and a Lone Star was the end-all combo for a few bucks, and will get the job done the Texas way. So get suited and booted, grab your bolo tie and 10gal hat and mosey on down to this two-step epicenter.. Get your feet on Fleek!
